Who says I need an actual sudden interest? [He might look marginally offended even as he continues examining ???] I just wanted to, all right? Get over it.
It's a bit of walk to the edge of the district, and the farther they go, the greyer it gets. The only thing ???'s not telling is that he had a teleport placed in the House to get to the outer area, but he prefers walking when it comes to going to his cow.
When they arrive, the house itself looks out of place considering it's the most colorful in the area. It still has some greyness to it, but it's easy to tell that ???'s visited frequently. There's a little barn next to it (it could have been a bigger shed in the past) with a fenced in area, one that's currently being occupied by a brown cow, who has her head draped over the fence. Once she spots ???, she blinks once, nods her head a bit, and moos happily. It seems to work pretty well in cheering up ???, making him smile rather brightly as he picks up his walking speed to join her.
[He walks along in silence, not really having much to say but keeping an eye on the other boy and making sure he doesn't suddenly disappear. However he comes to a screeching halt behind ??? once they approach the house and the barn, staring at the cow.
What the Merlin it actually responded to ???'s presence. Aren't cows supposed to be stupid animals?
He slowly approaches, keeping a small distance between him, ??? and the cow. He's mostly monitoring to make sure the cow doesn't go mad and attack, but he's progressively inching closer and closer until he's side by side with ???]
[It's ???'s turn to look mildly offended as he reaches the fence.]
Of course she does. She's been with me for awhile. [She's rather small for a cow too, but that doesn't matter to either of them. The cow will just nuzzles his hand when ??? reaches out to her, finally moving to sniff at his face afterwards.]
Or, I don't know, maybe she's a magic cow. She's pretty friendly though. [While he's rubbing her neck, the cow turns her head to look at Draco, blinking at him and trying to get a sniff as well.]
Still. I didn't think their brains were large enough to comprehend differences, magic or otherwise. [He's just going to jerk back as the cow tries to sniff him, too.] Hey. Manners, cow.
She's just trying to say hello, geez. [At least she's not licking you, Draco, but she's rather good about that in general. Or else ??? wouldn't have let her stick around with him.]
Anyways, wouldn't her brain be bigger than a dog's because she's bigger?
...[Give him a second to stick his hand out then, much as if said-cow is an oversized dog.] Not necessarily true. Dogs use more of their brains than cows, I reckon. [Other than the fact Osiris is a dumbass. But Bec seems to be smart.]
[Um. Hello cow. Draco's just...going to tentatively pat her on the nose. How does one cow?] I wonder if you could teach her to use more of her brain though...
[You know what, Draco, that deserves a light punch to the shoulder.]
Because she's my friend. I don't care if she's dumb as long as she likes me. I'd never want to change her to suit how I would want her to be. Anyways, she's perfect like this.
[He's not explaining the Telepathy part anytime soon.]
...then a very small handful, yes. [He's still watching the cow closely, convinced the animal's going to snap if he looks away.] I suppose she can be a friend then.
Then you're doing alright. [Her attention is turning away from Draco to snort at ??? before pressing her nose into his hands.]
Of course she is. [On that note, a native ends up stepping out of the house next to the little barn with a bucket of corn and grain in one hand. When he spots ???, he waves a few times while his appearance seems to distract the cow. Obviously it's food time, so with a blink at ???, she moves towards the gate that the man is headed towards.]
Well, looks like it's time to go. [Short-lived, but he knows he can always see her another day.] Going back to the store, Draco?
[Draco's just watching the native now, curious if he's actually responding to ??? or to the cow. As the cow pulls away and ??? asks the question though he blinks suddenly.] Not sure yet. Where are you going?
Probably someplace to work on my research. [And since he's not exactly inviting Draco, he's already moving away from the railing to head towards the nearest place that he's marked with a portal.]
................... [Yeah, this is weird and he's not liking it. Which is why ??? immediately stops in his tracks to think for a second before walking off in the opposite direction.]
Alright, then change of plans. If you got nothing to do, let's talk for a little bit.

Sorry, Draco, you're being left in the dust.]

...Yeah, I guess that sounds right. Sorry. [He's apologizing to his cow, Draco. And giving a scratch behind the ears too.]

No way! I like her like this. [Because her mind is so simple. It's perfect.]

Is that a clear definition? [Giving a few pats to the cow's neck:] She's still my friend, even if she's just an animal.
